Water crisis

Nelson Mandela Bay is facing a full-blown water crisis, with restrictions likely to come into effect next month if consumption does not drop by at least 10%.

As large parts of the city contended with smelly, brown water or none at all – or in some cases, just a trickle – from Monday afternoon, the municipality warned residents yesterday to prepare for frequent water outages as a result of the rolling electricity blackouts.

At least 14 suburban areas in the Bay were affected, as well as neighbouring farms.
