Although contestants were ready and raring to go, unpredictable weather made for a slow start to this year’s Spar River Mile at Sundays River outside Port Elizabeth.
With overcast conditions on Saturday and yesterday, the fun-filled event was quiet on both mornings.
But when the clouds cleared around midday on both days, the Cannonville slipway on the Sundays River at Colchester was a hive of activity.
“People tend to forget that miserable weather in the heart of Port Elizabeth does not necessarily mean bad weather at the event,” Helena Cullis, who had been manning a stall in aid of the Smile Foundation and Cleft Friends, said yesterday.
