Moments before Deveron Whitebooi was sentenced for the murder of a Humansdorp taxi driver, he happily smiled and posed for photographs.

But when his fate was read out in the Port Elizabeth High Court, Whitebooi, 25, lost his smile.

He was sentenced yesterday to life plus 15 years in prison.

Whitebooi was convicted in October of using an unlicensed firearm to rob and murder Kosie Chiga on his 52nd birthday in 2011.

Whitebooi rode in Chiga’s taxi, made him stop the vehicle and led him into bushes at the side of the road near Humansdorp.

How I wish it was the death sentence!!. He is going to have a nice life in prison (DSTV, suntan etc) whilst the victim’s children are still suffering because of his deeds!
