“I Hope the mayor of Nelson Mandela Bay [Ben Fihla] is packing up his office because the DA is coming next year,” DA parliamentary leader Mmusi Maimane told a large crowd of party supporters during his visit to the Bay’s Walmer township yesterday.
With politicians geared up for next year’s local government elections, what is expected to be the Bay’s most highly contested, Local Government Elections next year, Maimane tore into the ANC for the country-wide power cuts, saying the only person missing apartheid was President Jacob Zuma because he was taking the country backwards.
While a large crowd of members and supporters joined Maimane in a march through the poverty-stricken township, they were not well received by all, as a small group of shack- dwellers shouted that they were tired of politicians’ empty promises.
