Kasrils urges action at Khaled fundraiser
The government should send Israel’s ambassador and flag packing back to racist Israel.
This was said by former intelligence minister Ronnie Kasrils at a Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) in South Africa fundraiser in Port Elizabeth yesterday, where Palestinian struggle icon Leila Khaled was the main speaker.
Kasrils said not only was the government under the ANC too subdued on freeing Palestine, but it could support the cause by stepping up trade sanctions against Israel.
Top ANC regional representatives Thobile Mhlahlo and Bicks Ndoni, as well as representatives from the Young Communist League and Cosatu, were among the more than 400 guests at the fundraising lunch.
Kasrils said the government should maintain the “high moral and active role” which former president Nelson Mandela took when he said South Africans’ freedom was incomplete without the freedom of the Palestinians.
Other than the government taking a more active position of support, Kasrils said corporates should also boycott Israeli products.
