Former residents of the Tiryville informal settlement vowed yesterday to rebuild their homes on the Uitenhage land they were evicted from this week.
This comes as a contingent of police officers clashed with members of the EFF and residents yesterday when the remaining shacks were demolished.
A national land movement organisation has also thrown its weight behind the residents, saying it will do everything in its power to fight the “illegal evictions”.
Inyanda National Land Movement representative Mercia Andrews said members of the organisation were in Port Elizabeth to meet Lapland leaders.
“We are here to pledge our solidarity. We will fight this in court because it is an illegal eviction,” Andrews said.
