Social worker assists adoptive parents
A mount Pleasant mother is using her firsthand knowledge of connecting with an adopted child to help make the process a little easier for others.
As a social worker and adoptive mother Jill Pedersen, 33, has seen a need for foster and adoptive parents and children to build a meaningful connection with each other.
Through a community outreach programme Pedersen is trying to facilitate this.
She now runs the Port Elizabeth branch of Ulutho, which develops a support and information network for adoptive and foster families.
This is done through informal gatherings of families, input by professionals, parent evenings and advice and referral sessions.
