Antelope’s horn penetrates temple of Uitenhage man, 70

A Uitenhage farmer’s attempt to save his dogs’ lives eventually cost him his own, when the wild bushbuck attacking his pets turned on him.

Jimmy Robinson, 70, died in the Cuyler Hospital in Uitenhage on Monday after battling with his injuries for more than 10 days.

He was injured in what family members called a “freak accident” when he found a bushbuck ram in his yard and was stabbed twice by the antelope’s sharp horns.

His daughter, Carina Muller, who lives on the same farm, said they were stunned by the incident that happened in the blink of an eye.

“It was already dark outside, past 8pm, when my father heard a noise. He came out to find one of his Jack Russells limping to the front door, and the other still barking at a bushbuck on the lawn around the house,” she said.

The bushbuck had stabbed the fleeing dog in the hind leg and gave the other a cut along the stomach.

English is not my first language which will occasionally lead to me misspelling or some gross grammar mistakes but the comprehension part of reading is okay as I can read slowly to ensure understanding. In my opinion this could be your problem Alcan. Lack of comprehension. Your comments are way out of line and not applicable to the report above.

@Alcan, you are either just plain stupid or understand nothing of which you just read. The article clearly infers the animal had found its way into the yard (It wasn’t kept there) They weren’t using the dogs to hunt the dog in the yard…..

The Bushbuck was only defending itself from the cruel way these hunters use dogs it`s well known the bushbuck will ambush it`s enemy so while a life lost is sad it remains unsporting to hunt this way!

The farmer wasn’t hurt while hunting, the Bushbuck came onto his property, he was hurt next to his house, trying to chase away the animal. Next time read the whole article before commenting!

The previous comment summarises the incedent perfectly. Clearly this elderly gentleman and his jack russels were hunting bushbuck in his back yard at 20h00. Help…I dont want to be part of the human race anymore.
