Pupils sitting idle due to teacher shortage
Parents from KwaLanga in Uitenhage have threatened to keep a school in their area closed indefinitely, unless the provincial Education Department provides solutions to problems they have identified at the school.
The front gates of James Ndulula Primary School were shut shortly after classes started yesterday. Angry parents danced and sang outside the locked gates, claiming their appeals to the department had fallen on deaf ears.
“There are not enough teachers. Our children come home every day, telling us how they sat around in empty classes and did nothing,” Sanele Gomomo, a representative of the parents, said.
