Freshlyground’s Zolani returns to old school in Bay with inspiring message

St Dominic’s Priory pupils got a delightful blast from the past as their world-famous alumnus, lead singer of Afro-fusion group Freshlyground, popped in for a surprise visit yesterday morning.

It was an assembly like no other for the star-struck Grade 4 to 11 pupils, who were kept in the dark about their surprise guest speaker, Zolani Mahola, who shared some encouraging words with the pupils.

Mahola and her multi-award-winning band were in town at the weekend, headlining the afterparty for the cricket one-day international between the Proteas and Windies on Sunday and wowing their Nelson Mandela Bay fans with their internationally acclaimed tunes.
