Cunningham needs medical help – sister

‘Something must have happened to make him turn out like this’

Hot-headed former fitness trainer Brent Cunningham was a far cry from the cocky youngster people love to hate when he appeared in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Arrested on Sunday after his father Malcolm, 56, laid complaints of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and domestic violence, Cunningham constantly checked the courtroom door as if hoping to see family or friends arrive to support him.

But with the exception of his sister, Trishke, no one else arrived.

With his white hoody – worn when he was arrested the previous day – dirty and stained, he looked around nervously and asked for his sister.

A well-dressed and stoic-looking Trishke spent the morning waiting for her brother to appear but had to leave due to work commitments.

After lunch, when his case was called, Cunningham was heard asking his lawyer where she was.

Cunningham’s case was postponed and he will appear in court today when a provisional bail application date will be set.

Speaking yesterday afternoon, Trishke was frank about the difficulties her family was facing following the 23-year-old’s arrest on assault charges – his second arrest in just a week.

Must another person die before something is done about this lunatic?

He needs to be punished for his unacceptable actions, either by spending time in jail or in an institution where he can be monitored and given meds for any disorders he may have.
I’m not surprised no one was in court to support him, no one wants to be accociated with someone like this. As the saying goes : “friends are few when days are dark”.

People with Personality Disorders like Narcissistic Personality Disorder or Sociopathic PD, act like this guy does.
They have no conscience, no empathy for others, a hugely inflated ego, a sense of entitlement, and they feel they are somehow more “special” than others and therefore a different set of rules should apply for them. They do not feel empathy and are unable to take responsibility for their own actions.

They can be incredibly witty, entertaining and charming. But it is all based on falsehood, and manipulation to get what they want.

They do not think the way the rest of the population does. It is all about them and their own wants and needs. Nobody comes close.

They actually laugh at others who get hurt – they hate weakness and think that the victim deserved what they had coming to them!

Unfortunately, the prognosis is not good for NPD or SPD. A personality is relatively set in a person by late teens, early twenties.

The thinking about PD’s is that it is a combination of environmental factors, inherent genetic predisposition in the person, their temperament versus the environment in which they grew up in. Often it really is nobody’s fault that they are like this, but sometimes it is partly due to a bad fit between parenting style and the child’s temperament. And of course, sometimes the person grew up in a completely abusive and / or invalidating environment with equally personality disordered or mentall ill family members.

The prognosis for this man? Not good at all. Either he will soon land up in jail. Or he continues to get off scot-free, but then he will probably up and leave PE and go elsewhere where his reputation is unknown. And then wash, rinse, repeat: he will continue in exactly the same way.
