Bay businessman scores IPTS millions

NELSON Mandela Bay businessman Fareed Fakir – a suspected ANC funder – pocketed at least R28.5million from the city’s stagnant bus system between December and June. Fakir, 45, also stands to walk away with several million more through at least three of his companies contracted to do various work for the municipality.

This is despite the buses standing idle for nearly a year.

The city spent about R487-million between July last year and June on Integrated Public Transport System (IPTS)-related work – and not a single contract went out to tender.
