‘Gangsters’ in court

HEAVILY armed police cordoned off a courtroom in Port Elizabeth yesterday as four suspected gang members, accused of terrorising Port Elizabeth’s northern areas, appeared one after the other.

The men, all in their 20s and linked to different gangs, face charges ranging from attempted murder to murder. They were all remanded and will make formal bail applications next week.

A packed public gallery at the Magistrate’s Court was cleared before police armed with R5 rifles filtered into court.

Two men from rival gangs – and represented by the same attorney – appeared for allegedly trying to kill each other, before another suspected gang member appeared for the murder of a five-yearold Helenvale boy.
