Policeman killed, another wounded on N2

One policeman was killed and another wounded after being shot by suspected hijackers alongside the N2 near Kinklebos during the early hours of this morning  (16/02/14).

According to police, the vehicle was driving suspiciously and failed to stop when signalled to do so. A car chase ensured and when the vehicle came to a stop alongside the N2 a gun fight broke out, leaving one officer dead and the other wounded.

The suspects, who were driving a vehicle that was believed to be hijacked in PE, then fled.

A man hunt is currently underway for the suspected hijackers.

No names are being released at this stage as the next of kin is currently being informed.

Police spokesman Captain Andre Beetge confirmed the shooting however stressed that details are still sketchy. “The investigation is underway. I can also confirm two officers have been shot and one has died as a result,” he added.

    So sorry to hear about the tragedy. Condolences to Colleagues, Family and Friends. Hope the culprits will be dealt with soon. Also hope the “Man behind the door” (syndicates?) will be brought to book. These things are seldomly stand-alone crimes, specially if the perpetrators are armed and ready to fight it out. The public is supporting you in the good work the men in blue are doing. Never forget that.
