Passion for language

IT is a dream-come-true way of enriching your French lessons – by speaking the language with locals, and soaking up the culture in the beautiful European land itself – as three fortunate Theodor Herzl High School pupils discovered when they joined a group of South Africans on a tour to France recently.

Jessica Mandel, Sameera Scharneck and Lisa Kannemeyer, all aged 14 and in Grade 9, were among a group of 15 students from around the country. The party spent 10 days of the July holidays attending a language course in Paris, in order to further their French studies. They also travelled further south to visit Nice and Monaco.

The trio have already decided that French will be one of their matric subjects.

"We are all passionate about the language. It is one of the most widely spoken languages in Africa as well as other parts of the world, and the culture is gorgeous,” they all agreed.
