Wayile resigns from council

The United Front’s lone Nelson Mandela Bay councillor and former metro mayor, Zanoxolo Wayile, resigned from the job without ever setting foot in the council in the new government term. He is the second high-ranking councillor to resign from the council only weeks after the local government elections. Wayile had said he did not attend meetings because he was out of the country or busy with the National Union of Metalworkers of SA. The news comes after former mayor Danny Jordaan resigned earlier this month, also before even attending a single meeting since the August 3 elections. Wayile's phone was turned off all day yesterday. The United Front’s regional secretary, Mkhuseli Mtsila, and regional chairman Sizwe Foley could not be reached for comment either. In acting city manager Johann Mettler’s report to council yesterday, he wrote that they were still waiting for the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) to advise on the way forward.
