A by-election will take place in Ward 4 (Walmer Township) on November 9.
The by-election was scheduled as a result of the death of ANC councillor Nceba Dywili, who was murdered a week before the local government elections. The ANC won Ward 4 with 81.5% of the vote.
Regional IEC supervisor Crosby Bacela said: “The by-election in Ward 4, Walmer, will take place in November. There are no other by-elections in the city [Nelson Mandela Bay].”
Yesterday, ANC provincial secretary Oscar Mabuyane said he was not aware that a date had been set for the by-election.
“I have not heard anything about the by-elections. I hope we will be informed very soon,” he said.
The DA and EFF both confirmed they would be contesting the ward.
COPE PR councillor Siyasanga Sijadu said the party had yet to confirm with its national office whether it would field a candidate.
