A 31-year-old man was arrested by the Gauteng traffic police driving at 241km/h on the N4 in the early hours of yesterday morning.
The man was driving his BMW 330i in a zone with a prescribed maximum limit of 120km/h.
The speedster was formally charged with reckless driving, with an alternative charge of exceeding the speed limit.
He will appear in the Bronkhorstspruit Magistrate’s Court shortly.
Gauteng Community Safety MEC Sizakele Nkosi- Malobane condemned the incident.
“Most fatal crashes are as a result of bad boy behaviour,” she said.
“Statistics indicate that most accidents are caused by motorists driving at excessive speeds.”
In January‚ a 31-year-old Richards Bay man was arrested after he was caught driving his Golf GTI at 235km/h on the N2 in KwaZulu-Natal.
In April‚ the driver of a Jaguar was arrested for driving at 231km/h, also on the N4, this time near Alkmaar‚ outside Nelspruit. – TimesLIVE
