Man murdered along Victoria Drive

Walmer detectives need help finding three suspects involved in the murder of a 28-year-old man on Thursday afternoon (10/08/2017).

It is alleged that at about 4:45pm, two males were cutting wood in the bushes near Schoenmakerskop in Victoria Drive.

The men were about 200m from each other when according to the witness, Forward Maluleka, 28, phoned his friend and told him three men were approaching him.

Five minutes later, gunshots were heard coming from the direction of where Maluleka had been.  After a while, the friend found Maluleka lying in the bushes. His cellphone and chainsaw was missing.

Police suspect robbery was the motive for the killing.

Naidu added that the men were known to cut wood in the bushy area for their own use.

Since January there have been a spate of attacks on cyclists along Victoria Drive, in the same vicinity where Maluleka was murdered.

In some incidents, Ironman competitors were attacked and robbed along the same stretch of road.

All the robberies, and Maluleka’s murder, are under investigation by Walmer Police Station Detectives.

Asked about any arrests, Naidu confirmed that no arrests in any of the robberies had been made.
