Car thieves nabbed

Two suspected car thieves were nabbed red-handed while parking a stolen bakkie at a chop shop in New Brighton.

Police spokeswoman Colonel Priscilla Naidu said the bakkie had been stolen outside a shop in Newton Park at about 11am and recovered at noon.

“The suspects stole the car and somehow managed to drive it with a gear lock fitted. It remains unknown how they did this,” she said.

The arrest came after police received a tip-off and were told the vehicle had been spotted in Vuku Road in New Brighton.

The investigation has been handed over to the police’s specialist vehicle theft division.
