72-year-old dies in Thornhill fire

A 72-year-old woman died at her farm in the Thornhill area on Saturday evening, according to police spokeswoman Captain Gerda Swart.

“Her husband was admitted with burn wounds at a hospital in Port Elizabeth. Police have opened an inquest docket,” she said.

Swart said emergency services have been deployed in the area since the start of the fires.

“The Humansdorp cluster commander, Brigadier John Lebok expressed his heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the victim.”

A number of  buildings and vegetation were also destroyed by fires in the area.
