Dora Nginza Hospital social worker Pamela Rubushe has appealed for help in tracing the family of a newborn baby found in Algoa Park on Monday.

Rubushe said a passer-by had found the baby boy, only a few days old, abandoned at a factory site across the way from the Engen garage in Algoa Park.

“They phoned the ambulance and the baby was brought to us,” she said.

“He is in good health, but only a few days old.”

The baby boy, known as Unknown Monday, will be kept at the hospital for the time being.

Rubushe said it was the second baby in a month that had ended up at the hospital after being abandoned.

She said anybody who knew the parents of the baby, or a family member, or who knew of a women who had gone to a hospital or elsewhere to give birth and returned without a baby, should get in touch with her.

“We are looking at all options to find his people.

“We still don’t know where his family is.”

The Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual offences Unit is investigating a case of Child Abandonment.

Police are appealing for assistance in locating the man who informed the police that he had found the abandoned baby in bushes.

"The person introduced himself as Anthony Keswardts.

"The infant was clothed and wrapped in blankets

"The policewoman took the child from Keswardts and the infant was taken to hospital where he was given the necessary medical attention.

"Mr Keswardts did not provide any contact details and police would urgently like to contact him for further information relating to this incident," police said in a statement.
