Port Elizabeth police arrested three people on charges of suspected possession of stolen property after a high-speed car chase through the streets of Central last night.
Police spokeswoman Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg said a Toyota Avanza was reported stolen from a property in Kabega Park earlier in the day.
Police spotted the vehicle in Humewood Road and followed it up Military Road and through Central before cornering it in Havelock Street.
“Officers tried to cut off the vehicle but it came back down Western Road,” she said.
Janse van Rensburg said a highspeed car chase ensued with shots fired before the vehicle was eventually stopped in Campbell Street, Central.
“Three suspects, aged between 18 and 24, were arrested, while the driver ran away and is still at large.”
The three suspects were detained on suspicion of being in possession of stolen property.
