Proposed electricity hikes: public participation meetings hosted this week

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality is holding public participation meetings tonight and tomorrow evening (17/05/17 and 18/05/17) to present changes to the proposed electricity and property rates tariffs for the metro.

If approved by the council, the proposed tariffs increases will come into effect from July 1, 2017.

The proposed changes are:

Electricity tariffs for domestic users to increase by 3.8% and 1.8% for commercial users.

Property rates to increase by 4.8% instead of the initially proposed 9.5%.

The meetings tonight will be at the Uitenhage Indoor Sports Centre at 6pm and the City Hall in Port Elizabeth at 6pm.

Tomorrow’s meeting will take place at the Motherwell Raymond Mhlaba Hall at 6pm.

Members of the public are invited to join the meetings.
