Man stabbed to death in fight over smokes

A Patensie man who allegedly stabbed his friend to death during a drunken argument over cigarettes was arrested yesterday morning.

The 50-year-old man allegedly stabbed his friend outside his house in Pruimboom Road at about 7am.

Police spokesman Captain Gerda Swart said the name of the 55-year-old victim would only be released once his next of kin had been informed.

“The deceased was invited to drink with the man on condition he brought cigarettes. When he failed to produce the cigarettes, a fight ensued,” she said.

The man will appear in the Patensie Magistrate’s Court today on a charge of murder.
