A man who shot dead an off duty policeman in July 2014 will only be sentenced next month, the Port Elizabeth High Court heard yesterday.

Nqaba Charles, 26, was found guilty last week of murdering Constable Devin Hattingh, 31, in Motherwell as he escorted a furniture delivery truck in the area.

Charles’s sentence was expected to be handed down yesterday.

But due to the unavailability of Judge Phakamisa Tshiki, proceedings were postponed to April 19.

Charles’s co-accused in the matter, Jabulani Mkaba, 28, was acquitted of the murder due to a lack of evidence against him.
