The Happy Echoes choir of elderly entertainers who bring joy to many on the retirement home circuit in Port Elizabeth, is looking for an extra pianist to tinkle the ivories.
“This time last year we had three pianists to share the load but one relocated several months ago, and our principal pianist has just undergone two eye operations which is making things difficult for her,” choir director Carol Stephenson said.
“Thankfully, for the time being our third pianist Dineze Strydom is holding the fort, but it is heavy going on her own.” Despite the advanced age of most singers in the Happy Echoes, the group has a full calendar of concerts planned for the year.
“I am almost the youngest in the group and I am over 70!” Stephenson said.
“Our drummer had his 90th birthday last year and we all say it is the laughter and camaraderie, as well as the music which keeps us young.
“If there is anyone out there who would like further information please give me a ring on 083-400-2968. You are welcome to come to a rehearsal on a ‘no strings attached’ basis,” she said.
