A robbery suspect who escaped from Livingstone Hospital on Monday night was rearrested just hours later.
Yesterday afternoon, police said they were also investigating whether the man was the same one who had robbed church elders at the weekend, and then asked them to pray for him.
Police said the man, 35, was allegedly involved in the robbery of a teacher at Malabar Primary School last Thursday.
Police spokeswoman Colonel Priscilla Naidu said the suspect, whom police will only name after he is charged in court, was initially apprehended by residents and handed over to police at about 7pm on Monday, after the Malabar robbery.
“He was in need of medical treatment and was then transported to hospital. While receiving treatment, he managed to escape,” Naidu said.
“Detectives went to his home in Malabar. By 11pm he had been located hiding in a shack opposite his house.”
The man is due to appear in the Gelvandale Magistrate’s Court today.
