It’s official. Durban has lost the rights to host the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

SA Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee president Gideon Sam confirmed this on Monday afternoon.

Speaking to TMG Digital from London‚ he said via text message: “The Commonwealth Games Federation is looking for an alternative to Durban.”

Sam was in the UK city for a meeting of the CGF‚ where Durban’s status as host was discussed.

This is a developing story.

Apparently, according to reports, Gideon Sam is quoted as saying ‘no one is to blame’ for the fiasco.

That is just one of the major problems in this country. ‘No one is to blame’ (unless, of course, it’s an opponent or member of a different political party).

From what i read, those responsible for organising the event on this side failed to do a number of things, such as appointing the necessary heads, setting up the organising committee and so on, and/or missed deadlines.

So did they fail in those things, and if so then why is no one responsible?
