Shepherd finds abandoned newborn

A shepherd tending sheep and cattle found a newborn baby girl last week,  police said in a statement.

Police spokesperson Captain Jackson Manatha said the baby was found alive on Wednesday March 1 2017 at the Kwa Sotomela Location near Walter Sisulu University.

“The shepherd alerted three high school students that he saw near the scene of the crime  about the baby. The pupils contacted Msobomvu Police Station.

The baby was taken to Butterworth hospital where she is being kept,” Manatha said.

Manatha said that a case of child abandonment had been opened.
