Fifteen school pupils had a narrow escape after the bus they were in was swept into a river near Cradock yesterday.
The incident took place on the Drennan gravel road in the Mortimer area.
The bus was carrying children aged between seven and 10.
Provincial health spokesman Sizwe Kupelo said the children had been on their way home from school when the bus was caught in a flash flood at a river crossing.
Kupelo said emergency services resources including ambulance and rescue vehicles were dispatched to the scene.
“Thankfully, by the time they had arrived, all the children had been rescued from the bus.”
