Donations needed for fire victims

The Red Cross is working together with the Kouga local municipality and with Sarah Baartman District Municipality to render assistance to 620 people who have been evacuated from their homes as a result of the fires that have broken out in the Thornhill and Humansdorp areas.

“We are urgently appealing for assistance with food, blankets, hygiene kits and mattresses for distribution to these people,” Coralie Peo-Swartz from Red Cross said.

Donations can be dropped off at the office of The South African Red Cross Society on the corner of Raleigh and Bain Street in Richmond Hill, Port Elizabeth. The public can also contact Red Cross on 041-5856745 or 0836331640 for more information.

Peo-Swartz said their vehicles are all in the disaster-stricken areas at present and as a result they will not be able to pick up any donations.
