PE director to run London race for babies’ home

Port Elizabeth businessman Richard Ahlfeldt is going the distance for Isithembiso Babies Home in Walmer by running in the London Marathon to raise funds for the charity.

Ahlfeldt, 33, the joint managing director of Rooftop, has been serving on the home’s board for two years.

“I am really passionate about what the home does. To have an opportunity to run for them is really cool,” he said.

Ahlfeldt has been training for one of the world’s biggest marathons since January with his best friend and business partner James Scholtz, 34.

“We have always wanted to do the race. We tried to get an entry through a lottery but we didn’t win,” he said.

“A travel company phoned us with a sports package deal to partake in the race and we took it.”

The popular 42km race, which takes place on Sunday April 23, is sold out.
