The Port Elizabeth Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit is searching for man suspected of raping a woman earlier this month.

Police spokeswoman Colonel Priscilla Naidu said the incident happened at about 2pm on March 4 when the 34-year-old woman was walking form Bloemendal to Kleinskool to board a taxi.

“On her way, she met an unknown male whom she asked for a light for her cigarette. They struck up a casual conversation with each other and the person walked with her. On the way, as they neared some bushy area, the suspect pushed her into the bushes and raped her,” Naidu said.

“The victim was also stabbed on her head, breast and leg. The suspect also stole her bank card, cell phone and cash. After he left, the victim managed to get home and reported the incident to police.”

The man is about 1.65m tall, slender, light in complexion and between the ages of 29 and 31, with a scar on his left cheek.

“He was wearing an earring with a coin sign in his right ear. He told the victim his name was Shaun,” Naidu said.

Anyone who can help police identify the suspect can contact Sergeant Joshua Shilajoe on 071 475 2310 or 041-401 3000.
