More than 1 000 nabbed in province

A total of 1 053 people wanted for a series of crimes like murder, rape, and robberies have been arrested in the past week in the Eastern Cape.

The arrests were part of several joint operations involving various state departments, provincial police spokeswoman Brigadier Marinda Mills said.

“The operations were intelligencedriven to make our province safer,” she said.

In addition to the arrests, 12 318 people and 3 580 vehicles were searched, 97 premises raided, and 243 liquor outlets checked.

Safety and Liaison MEC Weziwe Tikana said he was proud of the committed officers conducting the clampdown.
