Varsity student fights off robbers in home

An NMMU student fought off two men armed with knives yesterday after they broke into his family’s Kabega Park home in Port Elizabeth.

It is believed the men climbed over the back wall and entered through a sliding door while Francois Fouche, 21, was home alone.

Fouche’s sister, Amore, said her brother was stabbed twice.

“He was in the house by himself when all this happened,” she said.

“He said they demanded that he open the safe and wanted the guns inside, but he managed to fight them off.”

Fouche, an electrical engineering student, managed to press a panic button.

His father, Danie, said he had rushed home from a camping trip when his son notified him about the incident.

“I was away for one night and he was at home with friends – some spent the night and others left this morning,” Danie said.

“When I got home, I saw the Atlas guys, police and ambulance.

“These days, you never know what will happen.”

Police spokeswoman Colonel Priscilla Naidu said the attackers ran off without taking anything.

She said one of the suspects had a tattoo on the left side of his neck.
