Parliament's SABC inquiry gets rolling today

A failed court bid by Mbulaheni Maguvhe, the only remaining member of the SABC board, means that parliament's inquiry into the broadcaster will go ahead today.

The first to appear before the ad hoc committee will be a representative of the auditor-general's office, followed by an official of the Independent Communications Authority of SA.

The committee also wanted records and board minutes related to the appointment of Hlaudi Motsoeneng to his current position, as well as the public broadcaster's failure to implement former public protector Thuli Madonsela's remedial actions.

"Those will be followed by board members and then the (office of the) public protector," said committee chairman Vincent Smith.

Former board members due to appear before the inquiry are Krish Naidoo and Rachel Kalidass, who are expected to testify on the governance failures of the SABC board.
