R30m for township healing projects

Identified as one of the communities deeply affected by the violence meted out to residents by the apartheid police, Uitenhage’s KwaNobuhle township is set to undergo rehabilitation.

An amount of R30-million from the President’s Fund will be spent on community projects there.

KwaNobuhle was identified by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission community rehabilitation programme as one of many communities needing healing.

The Department of Justice wants to partner with the municipality to help run the process of facilitating dialogue among the residents, who will identify and ultimately decide on the projects they want for the area.
