The best friend of Christopher Panayiotou’s mistress made a moving tribute to Jayde this week, leaving her friends, family and supporters gobsmacked.
But Clarishka Kapp’s post to the “Justice For Jayde Inggs” Facebook page – of a Christmas tree decorated in the slain teacher’s favourite colour – received mixed reactions from the public.
Some said they were shocked, while others congratulated her for moving forward.
On what would have been Jayde’s 31st birthday on Tuesday, Kapp posted alongside a photograph: “In honour of Jayde I decided to add yellow ribbons on my Christmas tree . . . Keeping the family in my prayers.”
Jayde’s friend and the administrator of the supporters’ page, Debbie Godfrey, said her initial reaction had been to delete the post, but Jayde’s younger sister, Toni Inggs, had asked her to leave it on the page.
“I then sat and looked at the post again and thought to myself ‘it must have taken a lot for Clarishka to post this’,” Godfrey said.
Kapp testified at the start of trial in the Port Elizabeth High Court that she had been best friends with Chanelle Coutts when her affair with the murder accused Panayiotou started prior to his marriage to Jayde.
She told the court Panayiotou had showered both of them with expensive gifts and that he and Coutts had seemed to be in love.
Kapp went further to comment on the Facebook post yesterday that she was no longer in contact with Coutts.
“To put on record, no contact has been made between the mistress and myself as a very hard lesson was learnt here. And it will continue to be so.”
