Alta Smit turned to the court after her property was loaded onto SANDF trucks and dropped off outside the City Hall last Friday. A fight broke out as SANDF members and municipal officials butted heads over the dumping of four truck loads of household goods.

Later that day, the court ordered that Smit’s goods be returned and that she be allowed to return to the base.

On Tuesday morning, SANDF members returned the household goods – including furniture, black bags filled with clothes and appliances – to Smit’s house, where a damp smell lingered in the air. The goods were randomly placed around the property – mattresses in the kitchen and a hosepipe in the lounge

Smit said she would return to the court on Tuesday as the military had failed to abide by the court order which stated the belongings be “restored to the property” and placed where it had been found.
