WATCH: Fight at City Hall after SANDF members dump furniture

A group of SANDF members unpacked a truck load full of furniture – including couches, laundry baskets, a fridge and toys – in front of the City Hall on Friday morning.

The group came with four trucks and a bakkie and dumped belongings in front of City Hall following an eviction at the Forest Hill base.

According to NMB acting city manager Johann Mettler the furniture belongs to “one or two women” who were evicted at the base, and were not present at City Hall when their belongings were dumped.

When municipal employees used their bakkie to attempt to stop the group from leaving City Hall a fight broke out and the soldiers attempted to bump the bakkie with their truck.

Acting municipal manager Johann Mettler said, what they did was illegal and they have applied for an urgent court interdict against SANDF.

“What happened here was disgraceful, an arm of government broke all kinds of rules, without any regard to law and order”, Mettler said.

More to follow.

Those SANDF members are a disgrace to their uniform. A serving member of the SANDF is NOT above the law and a police office’s instruction is to be obeyed above that of a senior. This was a shameful day in the SANDF history. What we saw here was plain thuggary
