A spiritual healer who repeatedly raped two teenagers to cure them of “snakes” and “nails” in their bodies was given two life sentences by the Port Elizabeth Regional Court yesterday.
Xolani Mazitshana, 35, of Kwazakhele, will serve them concurrently.
He impregnated a schoolgirl, 13, claiming he would cure her of a snake in her stomach, and raped a girl, 18, saying this would remove nails from her body.
Dressed in a black leather jacket and blue jeans, Mazitshana stared straight ahead as magistrate Nomfundo Sipunzi read out the sentence. He showed no emotion.
Relatives watched as he was ushered out of the courtroom.
Sipunzi said his actions were carefully planned with the intention of deceiving his patients.
His name will be added to the child sex offenders register.
Mazitshana was known in Kwazakhele as a healer.
The offences against the 13- year-old were committed in 2011 after she was taken to Mazitshana’s home for a stomach ache cure.
He told the girl she had a snake in her stomach.
The 18-year-old was raped on October 25 2008.
Mazitshana told her she had a nail inside her body and asked her to undress so he could ritually remove it.
