A man was shot dead and another wounded in two separate robberies in Uitenhage on Monday.
Late yesterday, detectives were still trying to determine if the two were linked.
Police spokesman Sergeant Majola Nkohli said the first robbery took place at 10.50pm in Phillip Street, Kamesh.
He said a man was accosted by two men with firearms when he arrived home.
“The suspects stole a large sum of cash and also shot and wounded a man.” He is a witness and not being named. An hour later Andrew Thompson, 66, was shot and killed in Syringa Street, about 2km away.
“It is believed Thompson was a loan shark and had just withdrawn a large amount of cash from an ATM,” Nkohli said.
