As NMMU was set to resume classes on Tuesday after been closed for nearly a month due to Fees Must Fall protests on campus, the day was marred by running battles between police and students.

The first incident started in the early hours of the morning as students blocked the main road to the South Campus.

Police used teargas, water canons and rubber bullets to disperse the students while police were met with students pelting stones at their vehicles.
