Girl hit by stray bullet dies

Two people, one of them an 18-year-old girl, died in two separate gang-related shootings in Bethelsdorp at the weekend.

Police spokeswoman Colonel Priscilla Naidu said both incidents were being probed by the Gang Task Team.

Serreline Fredericks, 18, was killed at about 7.40pm on Saturday when two suspects shot at three people standing on a veranda in Euclea Street.

“The girl was sitting in the lounge. A 19-year-old was hit in the leg but one bullet went through the window and hit the girl in the head. She died instantly,” Naidu said.

Police are also investigating a case of murder after the bullet-riddled body of Jeremy Petersen, 26, was found at about 11.30pm on Saturday, lying on the pavement in Calm Street.
