Human Settlements Minister Lindiwe Sisulu has tasked the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) with investigating the sale of RDP houses in the metro in a bid to clamp down on the practice.
Her department will fund the research with the hope of getting a preliminary report as early as next year.
Sisulu made the announcement on the second day of the Human Settlements conference being held at the Boardwalk.
The conference is in partnership with NMMU, aimed at exchanging ideas on how to bring about transformation in human settlements.
“I would like NMMU researchers to investigate one phenomenon which is really holding us back in our delivery,” Sisulu said.
“People are very tempted to sell their houses because of the immediate gain they get from easy money.
