A spiritual healer who raped and impregnated a 13-year-old schoolgirl while claiming he would cure her of a snake in her stomach was found guilty in the Port Elizabeth Regional court yesterday.
Xolani Mazitshana, 35, of Mbuyambo Street, Kwazakhele, was also convicted on a second count of rape involving an 18-year-old girl in an act he said would remove nails from her body.
The girl was told the nails were preventing her from having a boyfriend and the only solution to her problem would be presented “when their bodies were joined together”.
The identity of the victims cannot be revealed.
The 13-year-old, who subsequently had an abortion, was raped several times over two years.
Mazintshana, who was out on bail, was ordered to be kept in custody until November 3, when sentence will be handed down.
Mazitshana was well-known in Kwazakhele as a healer who used to pray for people using “holy water” to supposedly cure all sorts of ailments.
The offences were committed between July 29 2009 and December 11 2011 after relatives took the teenager to Mazitshana’s home to cure her of stomach pains.
It was during these sessions that Mazitshana “had a dream” and informed the girl she had a snake in her stomach.
The 18-year-old was raped on October 25 2008.
Mazitshana told her she had a nail inside her body and requested her to undress for him to perform the ritual of removing the object inside her.
