A Port Elizabeth police station commander is facing an investigation as complaints that he is frequently drunk at work flow in.
But Kabega Park police station boss Colonel Mpho Rabela says the allegations – that include arriving drunk for Jayde Panayiotou’s search party – are all a plot to bring him down.
He said: “There are individuals who believe they cannot be under the command of a black person.”
Rabela has been reported for allegedly being drunk at work a number of times over the past two years.
According to several police officers and Community Policing Forum (CPF) members, the barrage of complaints has been mostly ignored.
However, an investigation into similar allegations last year saw him cleared of all charges.
Earlier this week, police top brass said allegations of Rabela being drunk at work, coupled with other complaints, were the subject of an internal investigation.
Rabela confirmed he was aware of the probe.
