A street vendor was beaten with a braai grid and stabbed to death outside Boxer Superstores in Sidwell yesterday.
Ayanda Nomganga, 60, was beaten and stabbed by a group of five people who started attacking him outside the shop in Commercial Road.
Police spokeswoman Colonel Priscilla Naidu said witnesses maintained that Nomganga was outside the shop with his braai when the attack happened.
“According to the store and other vendors, he was there every day braaiing outside the shop, selling meat,” she said.
“A mob ran up and started beating him. It is alleged that they also used the braai grid to beat him as well.”
During the attack, Nomganga was also stabbed. “Nothing was stolen,” Naidu said. The group fled before the police arrived.
