A Port Elizabeth man wanted for rape, robbery and burglary was nabbed by the police flying squad at the weekend while drinking in a tavern.
The 23-year-old man was caught in Boyboyi Street following a tip-off.
Police spokeswoman Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg said that the suspect was wanted for a burglary in January 2011.
“Details of the burglary are still being sought but it appears it occurred in the Walmer area and evidence led to a warrant for his arrest.”
Janse van Rensburg said the man was also wanted for allegedly raping a 14-year-old boy in Walmer township in March.
“The teenager was walking to the shops when he was confronted by two men.
“The men robbed him before forcing him into nearby bushes where he was allegedly raped. One suspect was arrested but the 23-year-old went on the run.”
The man will appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Court today.
